As Kerala battles its worst flood in nearly a century, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state has suffered an estimated loss of around Rs 19,512 crore as per the initial assessment. This severe flooding affected Kerala due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season.
About 357 people have died and lakhs have been relocated to relief camps. Thousands of people are still feared stranded, awaiting relief and rescue!!
Helicopters have been dropping emergency food and water supplies across Kerala, while special trains carrying drinking water and rice have been sent to the state.
PM Narendra Modi announced a grant of Rs 500 crore. Apart from the PM Relief Fund; home minister, various ministers of state, officials, celebrities and people from various walks of life have contributed money to provide relief to the flood-ravaged state.
Pinarayi Vijayan said, “At this of point of time, nothing can help as much as money”.
